Rolling Water, Restoring Lives: EcoRollers Delivered in Driefontein

Like many villages across Southern Africa, families in Driefontein rely on distant taps, rivers, or communal water points to collect their water. The task falls mostly to women and girls, who make the journey daily — sometimes several times a day — carrying heavy buckets home by hand.

In December 2025, a special delivery of 25 EcoRollers were delivered. What made the day especially meaningful was the presence of Ed and Terri Hall of the Hall Family Foundation in Canada, whose generosity made this project possible. Through their support, 425 EcoRollers have been funded in Driefontein and the surrounding community.

The women were clearly excited that Ed and Terri had come in person to be part of the handover. There was laughter, curiosity, and a lot of eager hands wanting to try the rollers for the first time.

When Ed spoke, it wasn’t a formal speech. It was simply a few heartfelt words about why their family chose to support this work — and how meaningful it was to see the impact firsthand.

The most powerful voices of the day, however, came from the women themselves.

Two of the recipients stood up and spoke about what the EcoRoller would mean for their families. They talked about the long walks for water, the weight carried on their bodies, and the time it takes away from other parts of daily life. Both women spoke with emotion about how something as simple as rolling water instead of carrying it would make a real difference.

Moments like these remind us that the EcoRoller is not just a practical solution. It is a small change that can ease a daily burden that many of us never have to think about.

The day in Driefontein was filled with gratitude — from the women receiving the rollers, from those who helped coordinate the distribution, and from those who made the project possible.

And as the women rolled their EcoRollers home for the first time, it was easy to see that something important had begun.
